Artist statement
Process is not behind the work. Process is the work.
William Tiemann is an award-winning artist from St. Louis, Missouri, with an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a BFA in Printmaking from Webster University. His practice moves between classical printmaking and digital systems.
Each digital composition begins with a single mark. Through repetition, rotation, accumulation and visual investigation, that mark expands into an all-over field whose order and chaos are inseparable. The work asks the viewer to search for its origin, sometimes visible and sometimes buried inside the system it generated.
